Junior school

The Lower class has certainly kicked off quickly this year. We welcomed 3 new Preps and a returning Prep. It is always so lovely to see their keen faces and see how much they grow in such a short amount of time. The Year Ones and Twos were also very keen to be back at school and get into learning straight away!
This year in the Lower class we have 4 Preps, 7 Year Ones and 11 Year Twos. As we are a Multi-age class it is essential that do some Key Learning Areas as a whole class; whilst Maths and English are somewhat separate and differentiated where needed.
The Preps have been enjoying learning lots of new letters using the Jolly Phonics Program and are beginning to read new sight words each week. They are also enjoying exploring number sense in Mathematics and will continue to complete the Prep C2C units throughout the entire year.
The Year Ones and Twos have begun work on the English Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C) units in both English and Mathematics. Students have been enjoying working on the same C2C in English with a differentiation involved to suit all students. Year Ones and Twos Mathematics lessons have been separate to cater for a more targeted approach and allow students to gain direct instruction through Explicit teaching with the teacher. Students have been also enjoying working on individual activities in Mathematics that involves hands on materials and fun games.
Our whole class is involved in the same units for History, Geography, The Arts, Technology and Health and Physical Education. Again these units are differentiated and scaffolding is used to assist students gain independence.
2016 is going quickly already and I can’t wait to see where this lovely bunch of students end up at the end of the year!
